Polestar 3 achieves 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, sets new standards for child occupant protection
- Polestar 3 awarded 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating with overall 87% safety rating.
- Protection for both adult and child occupants, as well as comprehensive suite of safety systems contributed to strong Safety Assist category score.
- The Polestar 3 achieved a score of 93% for child occupant protection, the highest score of any passenger car tested by Euro NCAP over the past nine years
- Adult occupant score was 90%, child occupant 93%, vulnerable road users 79% and safety assist systems 83%.
- Second vehicle in Polestar’s current line-up to be awarded top rating.
GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 9 April 2025. The Polestar 3 has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating in the latest round of tests by the independent body. With a series of vehicle tests across four classifications – Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist – the Polestar 3 received five stars for all categories and an 87% score overall.
The European New Car Assessment Program has been certifying vehicle safety test results since 1997 and only awards five stars – the highest accolade possible – to cars that demonstrate an overall excellent performance in crash protection and are well equipped with state-of-the-art crash avoidance technology.
Lutz Stiegler, Polestar CTO, says “With a shared safety DNA with Volvo Cars there was no doubt in our minds how safe Polestar 3 is, and this five-star Euro NCAP rating simply reinforces that. And for us, safety is an inherent part of the Polestar performance ethos, so Polestar 3 customers can be safe in the knowledge our flagship SUV is fun and exciting to drive and takes care of them, and the people around them, at the same time.”
In the child protection category, the Polestar 3 proved of particular note, achieving 93% in that individual category – the highest score of any passenger car tested by Euro NCAP over the past nine years.
Dr. Aled Williams, Programme Director at Euro NCAP, says “The Polestar 3’s performance in the Child Occupant tests is tantalisingly close to a perfect score and shows how a commitment to the safety of all occupants can pay off in providing outstanding protection in the event of an accident. Car makers continue to rise to the challenge of making our vehicles and roads safer, and Polestar deserves recognition for setting a new standard, no matter how small the improvement may seem.”
Building on the previous five-star rating achieved by Polestar 2 in 2021, the Polestar 3 is the second car in the brand’s current line-up to undergo testing – and receive top honours – by Euro NCAP.
Sharing expertise with Volvo Cars, the Polestar 3 is designed with the latest structural innovations and advanced driver assistance systems already in place. Post Impact Braking and Protection and a Direct Assistance call system take care of occupants in the event of a crash, while the Driver Monitoring System (DMS) tracks the driver’s eye and head movements in case of tiredness or illness, and brings the vehicle to a controlled stop if required. Meanwhile, an array of sensors, cameras and radars – housed in the innovative SmartZone on the car’s nose and other exterior areas – warn drivers of preventable incidents and assist in mitigating against an impact.
Achieving a remarkable score of 90% for adult occupant protection and 93% for protecting child occupants, the Polestar 3 continued to impress with the care it took of vulnerable road users (79%), while the advanced safety systems received a mark of 83% in the tests. All of the above contributed to the car’s five-star rating.

Polestar Energy makes home charging smarter, more efficient and cheaper
- Polestar customers benefit from lower costs, more sustainable and smarter charging when using the Polestar Energy app
- Enables customers to combine smart charging with home solar energy and rewards to be added in the future
- When smart charging, and combined with additional grid rewards, customers can save up to 70% saving compared to cap rates
BICESTER, UK – 27 January 2025.Polestar Energy – the Swedish all-electric performance brand’s innovative new energy initiative – is now fully live in the United Kingdom. After a successful pilot scheme here in the UK, Polestar Energy offers customers smarter, more efficient and cheaper home charging.
With the Polestar Energy app, customers decide when they want to use their car and desired charging level, and smart charging takes care of the rest – charging when it makes sense for the grid. By balancing the demand, and charging when demand is lower, the result is lower energy costs when customers receive their electricity bill.
For Polestar drivers in the UK, Polestar Energy integrates smart charging with a Zaptec home charger and Intelligent Octopus Go energy tariff. This minimises total cost of ownership by smart charging for just 7p/kWh during off-peak hours*. This means that when smart charging combined with additional grid rewards, customers can benefit from saving up to 70% compared to cap rates**. The net result is a significant reduction in the total cost of ownership for Polestar customers.
There is also a reduction in CO2 in the usage phase of the car, as at times of lower grid demand the renewable energy mix is often higher, meaning charging your EV using the Polestar Energy app can be kinder to the environment.
The initiative compliments Polestar Charge which enables customers to easily charge at over 875,000 charging points in Europe including Tesla Superchargers, for charging away from home to provide a complete charging ecosystem.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO, says: “As the only global premium EV brand it’s important that we offer our customers such a compelling charging offer to make using their cars easier and more cost-effective. Up to 70% reduction on charging costs at home versus cap rates can make a big difference, and so we’re rolling this offer out at scale, with more markets to come later this year. When we add vehicle-to-grid capabilities in Polestar’s line-up it will add even more value to our customers.”
Later in 2025 Bi-directional charging with vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home capabilities, first targeted on Polestar 3, will allow customers to use their vehicle as energy storage and send back excess energy to the grid or even power their home.
Customers looking to take advantage of this offer need to have a compatible home charger. They can choose the Zaptec wallbox with smart charging capability directly from Polestar through an exclusive offer including installation cost.
