BYD, the World’s global leader in new energy vehicles, announces UK pricing for the SEALION 7 starting from just £44,990 on-the-road. This sporty, stylish SUV offers advanced EV technology, a spacious and refined interior, an intelligent in-car interface, and rapid charging up to 230 kW—strengthening BYD’s presence in Europe’s car market.
As the seventh pure-electric BYD model in Europe and the fourth in the Ocean Series (following the DOLPHIN, SEAL, and SEAL U), the SEALION 7 is crafted for tech-savvy families. It features an overall length of 4,830 mm, a 2,930 mm wheelbase, a WLTP range of up to 312 miles, a top speed of 113 mph, and acceleration from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
OCEAN SERIES DESIGN, TRANSLATED INTO A SPORTY SUV SHAPE
The SEALION 7, designed by BYD’s Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger, adapts the Ocean Series design language, seen in the DOLPHIN hatchback and SEAL saloon, into a sporty SUV. Its athletic stance combines power and efficiency, enhancing the range of its Blade Battery.
The front showcases the Ocean Series’ signature ‘X face’ motif, symbolizing dynamic motion. Dual U-shaped LED headlights and sculpted curves evoke ocean waves. The side profile combines a smooth yet assertive look, with a low front, rounded roofline, and fastback rear with a subtle ducktail spoiler. Crisp creases along the body create a dual waistline, while flush door handles enhance its streamlined appearance.
The rear shows off a muscular haunch and a full-width light signature, including the Ocean Series’ latest ‘water-drop’ taillights. At 30mm longer and 160mm taller than the SEAL, the SEALION 7 emphasizes its unique SUV positioning.
REVOLUTIONARY BLADE BATTERY & CELL-TO-BODY (CTB) INSTALLATION
Built on BYD’s award winning e-Platform 3.0, the SEALION 7 features the Blade Battery, an industry-leading battery that combines safety, efficiency, and durability. Using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as a cathode material, it’s cobalt-free, ethically sourced, and highly resistant to extreme temperatures. The Blade Battery’s cell-to-body installation integrates directly into the vehicle frame, maximizing cabin space and torsional stiffness. The SEALION 7 can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 24 minutes with ultra-fast 230 kW DC charging on top-spec models, making it ideal for long trips.
RECORD BREAKING MOTOR PERFORMANCE
BYD’s engineering innovation enables the SEALION 7’s rear motor to reach 23,000 rpm, the world’s fastest mass produced EV motor. Producing 230 kW and 380 Nm of torque, it powers the rear-wheel-drive Comfort model from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 113 mph. The AWD Design and Excellence trims add a second 160 kW motor on the front axle, delivering a combined output of 390 kW and accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, while maintaining the 113 mph top speed.
IMPRESSIVE RANGE AND CHARGING OPTIONS
The SEALION 7 is available with two battery capacities and three configurations to balance performance and range. The Comfort and Design trims come with an 82.5 kWh battery, offering up to 300 miles WLTP range on RWD models and 283 miles on AWD. The top-spec Excellence AWD trim boasts a 91.3 kWh battery, achieving the longest range in the lineup at 312 miles WLTP. All versions offer 11 kW AC charging and up to 150 kW or 230 kW DC fast charging, depending on the model. A highly efficient heat pump, synonymous across the BYD range, is standard, helping to maximise range, particularly in cold conditions.
ADVANCED CHASSIS TECHNOLOGY & ENGAGING DYNAMICS
The SEALION 7’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture provides excellent handling and stability through a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear axle. Equipped with Frequency Sensitive Dampers, the SUV adapts to road conditions, offering firm stability on smooth roads and a softer ride over rough surfaces. The AWD models also feature BYD’s Intelligent Torque Adaption Control (iTAC), which optimizes torque allocation, boosting traction and safety.
Spacious, Comfortable Cabin with Premium Features
With its SUV form and 4,830 mm length, the SEALION 7 offers a spacious cabin for five adults. A 2,930 mm wheelbase and flat rear floor maximize legroom, while the slim Blade Battery allows generous headroom even with the SUV’s sleek roofline. Premium comfort features include an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, double-layered laminated glass for noise reduction, and a large panoramic sunroof with a sunshade. Storage includes a 520-litre boot (expandable to 1,789 litres with rear seats folded), a 58-litre front compartment, and over 20 small storage compartments.
Cutting-Edge In-Car Technology and Driver Assistance
The SEALION 7 integrates BYD’s latest technology, centred on a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen. The intuitive interface offers a 3D car rendering, interactive controls, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The Excellence AWD also includes a Head-Up Display. BYD’s voice control system enables front and rear passengers to interact with the infotainment and climate systems through voice commands. The BYD SEALION 7 also features a 12-speaker audio system developed in conjunction with Danish speaker specialist Dynaudio.
Comprehensive Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 10 suite, the SEALION 7 offers a wide range of driver-assistance features: including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front and rear cross traffic alert and cross traffic braking, 360-degree cameras, and blind-spot detection. An intelligent speed limit and traffic-sign recognition system further enhance driving safety, while 11 airbags and ISOFIX child-seat connectors add protection in the cabin.
Generous Equipment Across Three Trims
The SEALION 7 is available in Comfort, Design, and Excellence trims, each loaded with high-end features. The Comfort model includes heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a 15.6-inch rotatable screen, a wireless charging pad, and V2L capability for powering household devices. Design models add 20-inch alloy wheels, and Excellence models feature Nappa leather seats and a Head-Up Display.

BYD builds European presence further at Paris Motor Show
- Introduction of new SEALION 7, ideally suited to European customers
- European line-up has more than doubled since previous Paris Show
- French customers experience wider range of BYD models
BYD is celebrating two years of unprecedented growth and investment in Europe at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Speaking at BYD’s press conference today at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li highlighted the incredible progress made by BYD since it made its official full European debut at the same event just two years ago.
The Paris Motor Show is one of the leading automotive expositions in Europe – a biennial autumn showcase for car manufacturers to introduce new models and explain the latest technological developments. BYD’s Paris focus this year is on three key areas – the European debut of the SEALION 7 and the progress made in the two years since BYD first appeared at a major European car show, with a full line-up of models for the French public to experience.
Marking the occasion, BYD’s Executive Vice President Stella Li said: “As the world’s leading new-energy technology company, over the past 30 years, we’ve always believed in using innovation to make technology accessible. Innovation is in our DNA and we have the largest R&D team in the world, with more than 102,000 engineers and 11 research institutes across the globe. We keep setting new records as we progress; last month, we announced that our nine millionth new-energy vehicle rolled off the production line. It took 13 years to get from zero to one million. But from seven million to nine million took us only six months.”
POWERFUL SEALION 7 DELIVERS PROMISE FOR EUROPEAN CUSTOMERS
The SEALION 7 is a mid-size pure-electric SUV with performance, practicality and dynamic design that are ideally suited to the European market. The new arrival is the eighth new-energy vehicle (BEV and PHEV) to be launched by BYD in Europe, and the latest addition to the Ocean Series of models that includes the DOLPHIN, SEAL and SEAL U.
The SEALION 7 showcases many of BYD’s cutting-edge technologies, with the revolutionary Blade Battery, Cell-to-Body (CTB) construction and the latest advances in cabin interfaces. In four-wheel-drive form it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while rapid charging speeds of up to 230kW make it an excellent real-world choice for long-distance journeys.
EXPANDED LINE-UP OF FRENCH-MARKET VEHICLES ON DISPLAY
In addition to the SEALION 7, BYD’s Paris stand features the French debut of the YANGWANG luxury brand, with the incredible U8 SUV. And French showgoers will get to experience the full diversity of BYD’s model range, including the high-quality cabin of the accessible, urban-focused DOLPHIN and the Vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology powering devices from the ATTO 3, the stylish yet practical all-electric SUV.
The breadth of BYD’s product portfolio will be further illustrated by the presence of the sleek, hi-tech, all-electric SEAL, sharing stand space with the company’s first European model with transformative DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, the SEAL U DM-i. This family-focused SUV has recently gone on sale across Europe, including in France, offering up to 1,080km of potential range, a spacious interior, drastically reduced running costs and an incredibly comprehensive standard-equipment list.
The public will get the chance to try the SEAL U DM-I for themselves at the show, while BYD’s entire range will be available for evaluation at BYD’s Test Driver Centre, right beside the Paris Expo.
PARIS ANNIVERSARY MARKS TWO YEARS OF RAPID EXPANSION
BYD made its European motor show debut at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, with three initial models to offer European customers – the ATTO 3, the HAN and the TANG. Now, only 24 months later, dealerships across the region have a total of seven vehicles available, depending on individual market requirements. BYD has been enjoying success with the DOLPHIN, the SEAL, the SEAL U and the SEAL U DM-I, and these models will soon be joined by the SEALION 7.
BYD’s dedication to offering European customers efficient new-energy vehicles is demonstrated further by its commitment to build two local production facilities in the EU.
Speaking about the progress made in Europe in just two years, BYD’s European Managing Director Michael Shu commented: “In 2022, BYD made our brand debut for Europe in Paris. Never ever had three pure-electric cars been launched here at the one time, and this showed BYD’s respect for the European market. Now, just two years later, we have eight models to offer.”
He added: “Our customers have been showing great interest in high-performance SUVs, so today, the SEALION 7 comes to Paris. Besides its Blade Battery, cell-to-body construction and our LFP battery chemistry, it is equipped with the world’s highest-speed electric motor in mass production, with a speed of 23,000RPM and 400 revolutions every single second. We are the only company to achieve such a record.”
GLOBAL WORKFORCE NOW TOPS 900,000, WITH OVER 100,000 ENGINEERS
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li used the Paris Show stage to confirm the latest growth numbers across the wider business. BYD is present in four main areas – electronics, batteries, cars and rail transit – and as it approaches its 30th anniversary of its founding, it now employs more than 900,000 staff around with world. Over 100,000 of these employees are engineers, demonstrating resolute commitment to research and development. BYD applies for an average of 32 patents and receives 15 authorised patents every working day.
BYD’s passenger-car division continues to grow with staggering speed, meanwhile. The company delivered its millionth new-energy vehicle (BEV and PHEV) as recently as 2021, yet only a few weeks ago it notched up the production of its nine millionth – a landmark achievement.
As a relentless exponent of sustainable technologies, BYD maintains an unmatched, all-encompassing approach, with applications in not only energy use (vehicles) but also energy acquisition and energy storage.
BYD is present at the Paris Motor Show in Hall/Pavilion 5.3, stand A42. The show runs from 14 to 20 October.
