A bolder, confident and unmistakable appearance

A new era of visual presence: illuminated standing star and striking light signature
The new S‑Class features a bolder silhouette and, for the first time, an illuminated grille, which is approximately 20 percent larger and accented with redesigned, three-dimensional chrome stars.

For more than 100 years, the upright Mercedes star has symbolized the heritage and pioneering spirit of brand. Today, it enters a new era: for the first time, the standing star on hood of the S‑Class is optionally illuminated4. Unmistakable, it becomes part of the S-Class light signature and gives the vehicle a radiant presence at night. The modern illumination design beautifully the special nature of the vehicle and transforms every arrival – whether at a grand event or simply returning home – into a memorable occasion.

The new DIGITAL LIGHT twin-star headlamp design creates an iconic look – day or night – and provide significantly enhanced visibility. At the rear, newly designed taillights with three chrome-framed signature stars reinforce the S‑Class identity, ensuring a lasting impression. A light projector integrated into the side sill trim on each side of the vehicle projects “Mercedes‑Benz” branding alongside the vehicle4, transforming every approach and exit of the vehicle into a special occasion.

New DIGITAL LIGHT system with adaptive ULTRA RANGE high beam and partial high beam function
The new S‑Class elevates visibility and safety with the new DIGITAL LIGHT system. Innovative micro-LED technology and a powerful new chip expand the high-resolution field of illumination by approximately 40 percent, delivering brighter high beams compared with the previous system. Sublime driving experience: Precision, comfort and safety

More power and greater sophistication with the new generation of powertrains
The new S‑Class combines effortless performance with hallmark comfort and composure, thanks to a refined range of electrified powertrains. Customers can choose from a variety of engines, which contribute to the signature sublime smoothness that defines the S‑Class experience.

The new eight-cylinder engine (M 177 Evo) in the Mercedes‑Benz S 580 4MATIC delivers 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Engineering upgrades and mild-hybrid technology support seamless power delivery, energy recuperation and exceptional smoothness, while meeting the latest emissions standards. Thanks to a refined injection system, optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshaft, flat-plane crankshaft with a new firing order and improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing, the new V8 powertrain is more responsive, efficient and delivers an even more refined driving experience.

The new six‑cylinder engine (M 256 Evo) in the Mercedes‑Benz S 500 4MATIC now responds even more dynamically, with torque increased to 443 lb-ft, and briefly up to 472 lb-ft using overtorque. Overtorque enables a brief increase in torque to provide the S‑Class with more power in certain driving situations, like when passing or during dynamic acceleration. Other key improvements include a more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, revised intake camshaft and optimized intake and exhaust ports. Enhanced insulation measures provide superior noise and vibration damping, creating an exceptionally calm ambience for vehicle occupants.

Both engines feature a 23-hp integrated starter generator (ISG) that provides intelligent support at lower engine speeds. In combination with turbocharging, this ensures excellent power delivery. The mild-hybrid system includes the 48-volt electrical system, which enables functions such as “coasting,” boost or recuperation to maximize efficiency. The ISG also allows for operation of the start-stop function and transition from “coasting” with the engine off to powerful propulsion with engine power to be almost imperceptible to the driver. The intelligent interaction between the ISG and combustion engine ensures outstandingly smooth operation at idle.

The plug-in hybrid Mercedes‑Benz S 580e 4MATIC combines the new upgraded six-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, increasing combined system output by 73 hp over the previous generation powertrain to 576 hp. Power delivery is also even smoother and more responsive.

Supreme ride comfort with intelligent damping and effortless maneuverability
Every journey in the new S‑Class is defined by benchmark quietness, refined comfort and effortless composure thanks to standard AIRMATIC air suspension or optional E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL. Both systems now feature intelligent damping, a sophisticated innovation that can automatically adjust the damping system before respective thresholds are reached. The system differentiates between short, sharp road irregularities such as potholes, which are detected and communicated as warnings, and longer speed bumps that induce vertical body movement, where proactive damping adjustment can measurably enhance comfort. This intelligent damper regulation works in combination with AIRMATIC and E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, using Car-to-X20 information from Mercedes‑Benz vehicles driving ahead which is transmitted in real-time to the Mercedes Intelligent Cloud21 and anonymized. Mercedes‑Benz has already applied for a patent for this in-house-developed feature.

4.5-degree rear-axle steering, now equipped standard, enhances maneuvering and agility. Optional 10-degree rear-axle steering reduces the turning circle by nearly 6.6 ft for even greater maneuverability at low speeds, such as effortlessly slipping into a tight parking space, navigating a narrow driveway or turning confidently in a crowded city center. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in parallel with the front wheels to deliver reassuring stability and calm composure.

Safety as a hallmark: Intelligent protection for every seat
The S‑Class has consistently been at the forefront of safety. From crumple zones, ABS and ESP® to today’s intelligent MB.DRIVE assistance systems. The S‑Class is the spearhead of this philosophy. Its enhanced adaptive restraint system includes PRE-SAFE® Impulse seat belt pretensioners, dual-stage load limiters, advanced airbag inflators and an active vent in the passenger airbag. A passenger knee airbag and optional rear airbags for a frontal impact expand protection to a global standard of up to 15 airbags, intelligently deployed by an airbag control unit that calculates the most beneficial response in every situation.

Rear passengers benefit from innovative optional beltbags that inflate during severe frontal impacts to reduce chest loads, while available rear airbags can deploy to reduce loads on head and neck. PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side in the front row can recognize critical side impact driving situations at an early stage activates and initiate precautionary protective measures to optimize occupant positioning. Models equipped with E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL can elevate the vehicle to distribute crash forces more effectively. Every detail—from restraint systems to intelligent deployment—underscores the S‑Class commitment to uncompromising safety.

It now features four horizontal chrome bars instead of three, creating a particularly distinguished aesthetic. For the first time in the history of the S‑Class, the grille is also illuminated. Tiny, hot-stamped chrome stars provide a three-dimensional depth effect. As part of the Night Package, a dark chrome grille is available, paired with color-matched flush exterior door handles, among other features.

An optional illuminated standing Mercedes star on the hood is also available for the first time22. A high-gloss black insert visually links the headlamps and radiator grille as a single unit. With the new twin-star headlamp design, the S‑Class boasts a distinctive look both by day and by night. Another innovation is the optional integrated light projector22 in the side sills, which projects Mercedes‑Benz branding alongside the vehicle to greet and bid farewell to the driver and passengers.

The rear design of the new S-Class has also been reimagined. New taillights with three chrome-framed stars emphasize the prestige of the flagship model. The two-piece trim element on the trunk lid, now finished in chrome and high-gloss black, is a testament to Mercedes‑Benz’s exceptional attention to detail and provides a delicate finishing touch to the extensive exterior update.

Inside, the new dashboard, door trim and center console create an entirely new interior experience, elegantly blending digital and analog luxury at the highest level. A key highlight is the standard MBUX Superscreen, with floating driver display as well as a central and front driver display beneath seamless glass surface. This extends into the doors, creating a new sense of spaciousness. The central air vents are now broader, forming a louvered band that also extends into the doors — a design cue echoed in the rear cabin. The side air vents are innovatively integrated into the display landscape, while the seamless, three-dimensional light graphic surrounds the metal vent housings.

The newly designed center console with a larger trim surface emphasizes the premium materials of the new S-Class. The center consoles in front and rear can now be individually specified with a wide range of trim finishes, including two new trim designs: Natural Grain Amberwood with Herringbone Pattern featuring dark walnut wood precisely tailored to shape; and Metal Structure High-Gloss Silver metallic textile blend.

The new optional “Beech Brown” upholstery, inspired by the world of luxury fashion, is a highlight of the diverse interior color palette. Contrasting piping and stitching in light tones showcase its luxurious character to perfection.

This means that whether customers are leading a meeting from the driver’s seat or joining a video conference from the rear cabin, other meeting participants can see them clearly – enabling seamless collaboration. Use of the camera complies with the laws of each country and is approved for use while the vehicle is in motion. Meeting video for the driver automatically turns off as soon as the camera is activated to prevent driver distraction while the vehicle is in motion. Drivers therefore do not see shared screens or slides – and the camera can be turned off at any time. With this innovation, the S‑Class transforms every seat into a connected workspace.

Personalized infotainment: MBUX Zero Layer and new operating concepts
With the standard MBUX Superscreen, the S‑Class offers a wealth of genuinely valuable functions. The operating and display concept is tailored not only to the vehicle, but also to individual customer preferences, following the design principle of reduction to the essentials. In the app grid, apps can be moved and grouped into individually named folders, similar to a smartphone. When an app is open, a simple swipe to the left returns to the app grid. Another swipe takes the user back to the Zero Layer. Customers can also access the Zero Layer directly at any time via the home button.

Several attractive ambient styles are available, enhancing the unique effect of the wide display. High-resolution welcome animations were crafted with great attention to detail by Mercedes‑Benz UI designers. The impressive background images span a wide range across all front screens – from calm to intense, cool to warm and technical to emotional – enabling customers to create a personal atmosphere inside the vehicle. The colors of the driver display, including the gauges, and the ambient lighting are harmonized with these emotional motifs thanks to MB.OS.

MBUX Surround Navigation
Integrated visual communication reaches a new dimension with MBUX Surround Navigation. Thanks to the deeply integrated architecture of MB.OS, the advanced system shows a real-time representation of the vehicle and its surroundings. It seamlessly combines the driver assistance view with a 3D representation of the vehicle’s surroundings and route guidance on the driver display, showing other road users such as cars, bicycles, motorcycles and pedestrians. The integration of information into the driver display using 3D game-engine graphics provides a highly intuitive overview.

With generative AI, the new MBUX Virtual Assistant16F2 revolutionizes the relationship between vehicle and driver. It enables complex, natural conversations – like one would have with a friend – and has a short-term memory. It can be activated with the “Hey Mercedes” keyword or, when driver is alone in the vehicle, the “Just Talk” function, which responds to voice commands without a keyword. Based on ChatGPT4o and Microsoft Bing Search, the MBUX Virtual Assistant unites the collective knowledge of the internet. It can retain context and access different sources of information within the same conversation, allowing customers to continue conversations and retrieve information seamlessly during a journey.

The intelligent virtual assistant is always present on the Zero Layer as a “living” avatar in the form of the Mercedes star. In the default setting, it is a blue color, or silvery blue with the optional AMG Line package. The colors in the avatar represent the emotions of the Virtual Assistant. For example, it reacts positively to “thank you” (green) or shows joy when telling a joke (colorful). With various animations, the virtual assistant also signals whether it is currently speaking, listening or processing information. Movement, brightness, intensity and color interact seamlessly to communicate intuitively with the driver.

In addition to the star avatar, there are two new representations of intelligence: the first is a human-like avatar, which emerges from a cloud of stars. It embodies intelligence in a technologically futuristic way. The second new avatar, nicknamed “LittleBenz,” with its expressive face, allows for an even stronger connection on a personal level. Its lively form inspires interaction.

Whether in the front or rear seats, all occupants benefit from an optimized operating concept and a noticeably improved environment in terms of thermal and air quality. The brand promise “Welcome Home” is made tangible in every detail.

New steering wheel controls, wireless charging within easy reach and illuminated cup holders
The new multifunction steering wheel boasts improved ergonomics and intuitive operation. Based on customer feedback, Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced a rocker switch for Digital Extra: Distance Assist DISTRONIC and a roller switch for volume control. The capacitive switch panels are seamlessly integrated and provide tactile aids for better orientation.

The new center console is always finished with high-quality trim. Designed for everyday practicality, it integrates two easily accessible mobile phone compartments and a generous storage area. Two smartphones can be charged wirelessly side by side. The new illuminated cup holders provide an improved hold for bottles and cups of different sizes and add a subtle ambient light accent.

Innovative heated seat belts
A new feature of the two warmth and comfort packages is innovative heated seat belts for the front seats. According to test participants surveyed during development, the pleasantly warmed seat belt feels like a gentle embrace. Thin filaments acting as electrical conductors are integrated into the seat belt. The seat belt can quickly warm up and be conveniently switched on and off using the seat heating controls. Automatic activation linking the heated seat belts to the seat heating button can be controlled via the central display. Heated seat belts can also lead to increased safety, as occupants may feel motivated to take off thick winter coats before buckling up, making the seat belts more efficient for safety.

With seat belt heating, Mercedes‑Benz brings a new comfort feature into a series production vehicle that was first showcased in the ESF 2019 experimental safety vehicle. This illustrates the Mercedes‑Benz way: pioneering innovations debuting in research and concept vehicles, then consistently and systematically transferred into series production. For more than 140 years, this continuous innovation process has shaped the brand – from visionary studies to everyday customer benefit.

Automatic climate control vent adjustment with Digital Vent Control
The S-Class takes a major step forward in climate comfort with Digital Vent Control, an innovative system that automatically adapts the position of air vents – both front and rear – to a customer’s desires. Up to eight individual positions can be stored and activated via the MBUX Virtual Assistant – for example, a “focused” profile that directs cool air gently to the face, or a “rear relaxation” setup that warms the rear passengers without a draft. Technically, the system utilizes compact actuators in each air vent, featuring two small electric motors to control the vertical and horizontal louvers. Digital Vent Control is already included in the front cabin in combination with the standard dual-zone automatic climate control system. Rear digital vent control is added with the optional four-zone climate control system.

The hybrid operating concept allows for the climate control air vents to also be adjusted by hand. Memory-saved presets can be selected via the user profile and even allow for pre-conditioning of the interior. Three functions enhance climate comfort: customers can select presets for the air vents in MBUX (“Focus,” “Torso,” “Individual” and “Diffuse”). Seat-related personalization of the air vent position is also possible. If the vent nozzles are adjusted manually, the menu item automatically switches to “Individual”. The system saves this individual setting and stores it in the user profile. With Active Defrost for the side windows, the vent nozzles are set in the direction of the side windows – a feature also available for the rear center nozzles.

This is a unique S‑Class innovation, as are these three additional all-new functions: the airflow is directed to hot or cold surfaces during pre-conditioning; the nozzles become part of the welcome sequence by moving from their default position when the vehicle starts; and in chauffeur mode, rear seat nozzles can be controlled from the front by the driver.

Fresh air in every situation: new electric filter for cleaner cabin air
The new S-Class continuously works to clean the cabin air – fully renewing the cabin air roughly every 90 seconds27. At the heart of the system is an advanced multi-stage filtration concept with an electric filter, which helps ensure clean air and can reduce unpleasant odors. The incoming outside air is cleaned effectively of unpleasant and harmful components with the help of a multi-stage filtration concept. In the first stage, the outside air flows through a pre-filter to filter coarse particles. Subsequently, an electric filter ionizes fine-dust particles and enables excellent filtration at the interior filter. While the pre-filter in the first filtration stage only cleans the outside air, the interior filter is also active in recirculation mode.

ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL intelligently monitors air quality inside and outside the vehicle using fine-dust and air-quality sensors. It intelligently networks sensor data and thereby detects nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), as well as fine dust of particles. The capability of a system to filter impurities is often categorized using a PM, or particulate matter, scale which represents the size of the matter in microns.  For scale, a typical human hair is around 50 microns, dust and pollen are around 10 microns, and the system can filter particles as small as 2.5 microns, or PM2.5, in the outside air. If the measured values of the air quality and fine-dust sensor reach a certain range, the climate control system can automatically switch between fresh-air and recirculation mode to provide better air quality in the interior.

Personalized seat comfort for front and rear occupants
For optimal seating comfort and individual adjustment, the front seats of the S‑Class feature up to 19 motors, providing a personalized experience. Six different massage programs – classic, relaxing, waves, deep waves, hot stone and activating – use vibration motors and can enhance the effect of a relaxing hot-stone-style massage by combining seat heating with the inflatable air chambers of the active multicontour seats. Because the air chambers sit close to the seat surface, the massage effect is particularly tangible.

In the rear cabin of the S‑Class, passengers can enjoy a mobile workspace or a place to relax:

  • Fixed rear seats are fitted standard.
  • As part of the Exclusive Package, rear seat passengers can enjoy enhancements such as a power adjustable rear seats with backrests adjustable up to 37 degrees, rear seat memory functions, luxury headrests with additional cushioning, PRE-SAFE® positioning function and a folding center armrest with double cupholder.
  • With the optional Pinnacle Package, the rear seats are upgraded with rapid heating and ventilation, heated armrests, Digital Vent Control for the rear cabin as part of the four-zone climate control system, rear airbags and two additional USB-C ports. The folding rear center armrest is equipped with a wireless charging system for mobile devices and MBUX remote controls.
  • The new Pinnacle Plus Package provides the ultimate in rear seat comfort, which adds rear seat massage functions, an executive rear seat with an adjustable backrest angle up to 43.5 degrees, rear seat neck and shoulder heating, a leg and footrest for the right rear seat, seat belt presenters, beltbag and adaptive rear cabin lighting.

Arrive more relaxed than ever
With its high level of ride and acoustic comfort, as well as a comprehensive range of ENERGIZING COMFORT programs, the S‑Class is dedicated to the well-being of its passengers. Innovations include massage functions based on vibration motors in the seat cushion and the body sound transmission of the available Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound System, which makes deep tones physically perceptible. This direct transfer of sound into the seats adds a fourth dimension to the already three-dimensional listening experience – true 4D sound, inspired by sound-bowl massage. The tactile intensity can be individually adjusted for each seat via two tactile transducers (exciters) integrated into the backrest, making the music experience even more emotional. ENERGIZING seat kinetics, which debuted in the S‑Class, supports gentle adjustments to the seat cushion and backrest angle, helping to stretch and relax muscles and improve circulation during longer journeys.

Optional Active Ambient Lighting adds an extra, experiential layer to the standard ambient lighting. With approximately 250 LEDs, it is linked to the driver assistance systems and can visually support system alerts. It also provides feedback when operating the climate control or the intelligent voice assistant. The result is a truly unique interior atmosphere by day or night, turning every journey in the S‑Class into a personalized experience.

By refining drivetrain technology, suspension control and lighting systems, Mercedes‑Benz has enhanced every aspect of the S‑Class driving experience. The result is serene calmness paired with effortless power delivery – ensuring agility, composure and the highest levels of safety and comfort on every journey.

New state-of-the-art drivetrains: Meticulous refinement in technology
The new S-Class sets a new benchmark for powertrain sophistication, offering a range of state-of-the art engines that combine performance, efficiency and refinement. At the top of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup is the latest evolution of the V8 engine, the M 177 Evo, available in the S 580 4MATIC25F. The engine delivers 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, available across a broad rpm range from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. Thanks to a series of engineering enhancements – including a refined injection system, optimized intake and exhaust ports, revised intake camshaft and improvements to the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing – the V8 responds more quickly, operates more efficiently and delivers power more smoothly than ever before. A flat-plane crank with a new firing order reduces rotating mass and internal vibration, allowing the engine to rev more freely and deliver power with greater immediacy and refinement. Integrated mild-hybrid technology provides additional torque at low speeds, enables energy recuperation during braking and supports seamless engine starting, all while contributing to the S‑Class’s signature quietness and smoothness. Additional insulation measures further reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), ensuring a tranquil cabin environment even under acceleration or at high speeds. The V8 is also equipped with advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems, including a globally standard particulate filter, to ensure compliance with the latest emissions standards.

The six-cylinder engine (M 256 Evo) in the S 500 4MATIC responds even more dynamically and delivers an even more assured driving experience, thanks to increased torque – especially under the partial load. Torque is now increased to 443 lb-ft; with up to 472 lb-ft available using overtorque. Overtorque enables a brief increase in torque for certain driving situations like passing or dynamic acceleration. These improvements are based on a new, more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, cylinder head with revised intake camshaft and optimized intake and exhaust ports. In addition, combustion processes and exhaust aftertreatment have been further refined. Further insulation measures have also improved NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) characteristics compared to the previous engine. The result is a smoother, quieter and more dynamic driving experience.

Both engines feature a 23-hp integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG provides intelligent support at lower engine speeds and in combination with turbocharging, this ensures excellent power delivery. The system includes a 48-volt electrical system, which enables functions such as “coasting,” boost or recuperation to maximize efficiency. In addition, the engines start quickly and comfortably with the help of the ISG, which allows for operation of the start-stop function and the transition from “coasting” with the engine stationary to powerful propulsion with engine power to be almost imperceptible. The intelligent interaction between the ISG and the combustion engine also delivers exceptionally smooth operation at idle.

The plug-in hybrid S 580e 4MATIC combines the upgraded six-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, delivering up to 576 hp of combined system output – 73-hp more than the previous engine generation – and up to 553 lb-ft of combined system torque.

Rear-axle steering and intelligent cloud-based damper regulation
Now standard across the entire S-Class range, 4.5-degree rear-axle steering enhances maneuverability and stability. Optional 10-degree rear-axle steering reduces the turning circle of the new S-Class to 35.4 ft. In addition it also enhances stability at highway speeds.

The new S‑Class is equipped standard with the AIRMATIC air suspension system featuring intelligent damper regulation, which provides significantly more comfort, especially on uneven road surfaces and speed bumps. With intelligent damper regulation activated, Car-To-X communication27 enables damping to be automatically adjusted just before the speed bumps, enhancing comfort. The improvement in ride quality is particularly noticeable for rear-seat passengers. The system differentiates between short, sharp road irregularities such as potholes, which are detected and communicated as warnings, and longer speed bumps that induce vertical body movement, where proactive damping adjustment can measurably enhance comfort. Speed bumps are detected via dedicated vehicle sensors and stored in the Mercedes Benz Intelligent Cloud for up to 14 days, allowing the system to prepare the suspension in advance whenever another equipped vehicle approaches the same obstacle. The intelligent suspension control is part of both the standard AIRMATIC air suspension and the optional active E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension. Mercedes‑Benz developed this function in-house and has applied for a patent.

The damping adjustment is based on Car-to-X information28 from other Mercedes‑Benz vehicles driving ahead, which is transmitted in real-time to the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud and anonymized. Car-to-X denotes communication between vehicles and with traffic infrastructure. By leveraging the sensors of other Mercedes-Benz cars, the technology significantly extends the coverage of the vehicle’s own radar and camera systems, effectively allowing the vehicle to look around the corner.

The optional E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension can regulate spring and damping forces individually at each wheel, counteracting roll, pitch and lift movements. E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL ensures an exceptional level of comfort, and in the event a critical side impact situation, the system can also raise the body within fractions of a second. This is a feature of PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side, designed to reduce the load on occupants.

Next generation DIGITAL LIGHT system
The new S‑Class features next generation of DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology. A powerful chip is used in the lighting module, increasing the high-resolution illumination field by approximately 40 percent and enabling a significant increase in brightness. At the same time, energy consumption is reduced by up to 50 percent compared with the predecessor system. The weight of the headlamps has been reduced by more 25 percent thanks to the more compact micro-LED design and the use of a single control unit. All software modules are integrated into the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and have been developed predominantly in-house.

A key innovation of the new DIGITAL LIGHT system is the dynamically swiveling ULTRA RANGE high beam, which no longer shines simply straight ahead but now adjusts its direction. The partial-high-beam, now available in the U.S. for the first time, operates even more robustly as detection of poorly lit road users has been further improved. Thanks to combined camera data and map information, the cornering light reacts even more precisely to the road’s layout.

DIGITAL LIGHT can also be enhanced with the optional Digital Extra29 projection function. Alongside the familiar projection features for lane departure warnings, the S‑Class now adds a new cold-weather warning with which a snowflake is projected onto the road surface. The construction zone light has evolved into a narrowed lane light, activating automatically on all types of roads when a reduced lane width is detected. DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function also communicates with the driver: the headlamps and taillights react with a brief light show when the vehicle is locked, unlocked or the engine is switched off. The animation function can be activated or deactivated via the central multimedia display, with the “Digital Rain” and “Star Wave” animations now available in a fresh design.

Mercedes-Benz has already tested this lighting technology for the S‑Class in its new light tunnel at the Immendingen Testing and Technology Center, officially inaugurated in early 2025. Regardless of the time of day or weather, experts there can evaluate the headlamp light distribution of future Mercedes‑Benz models from a customer perspective under reproducible conditions. The drive-through light tunnel, over 328 ft long, features a full-scale country road with dashed center lines and side markings – making it one of the longest facilities of its kind in the automotive industry.

Safety: Updated restraint system for our safety flagship
The S-Class has consistently been at the forefront of safety. The updated model has further improved its adaptive restraint system and now features PRE-SAFE® Impulse seat belt pretensioners and dual-stage load limiters for the front seats, dual stage airbag inflators for the driver and passenger airbags and an active vent in the passenger airbag as standard. Additionally, a passenger knee airbag complements the suite of safety systems, all as a global standard. With further optional airbags available for rear occupants, the S-Class is equipped with up to 15 airbags. The airbag control unit calculates which airbags may provide a benefit in the individual situation, and it will only deploy those airbags that can give a benefit. The added components contribute to an even more elevated level of occupant safety, as the setting of the restraint systems can be more individualized.

The rear seat can also be equipped with optional beltbags where shoulder part of the seat belt can inflate in a severe frontal impact, thereby helping to reduce load peaks on the chest by tripling the area of the seat belt along the chest. The S‑Class continues to offer another extraordinary safety feature for the rear seats, rear airbags. Rear airbags are designed to improve the safety level in a severe frontal impact. The rear airbag can help to reduce the loads acting on the heads and necks of occupants on the outer rear seats.

Another highlight is PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side in the first row. This is the only pyrotechnical restraint system that deploys in critical situations before a side impact, as it can help to bring the occupant into a more favorable position. On models with the optional E‑ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension, the suspension automatically raises, which can help distribute the loads of the impact to the particularly stiff lower parts of the vehicle body structure.
