
Hyundai Announces HTWO Energy Savannah, the Industry’s First Dual-Energy Hydrogen and Electric Station to Support Heavy-Duty Zero-Emission Vehicles in the Savannah Region
- HTWO Energy Savannah will serve Hyundai’s new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), utilizing XCIENT hydrogen heavy-duty fuel cell trucks for Clean Logistics

POOLER, Ga., April 28, 2025 – Today, at the 2025 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, Hyundai announced plans to launch a scalable hydrogen production and dispensing facility for Class-8 heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles. The station will be located just 10 miles from the Port of Savannah, Georgia, within one of the nation’s busiest freight hubs. HTWO Energy Savannah development is a collaboration between HTWO Logistics, HydroFleet, and Capital Development Partners, and is scheduled to begin operations in late Fall 2025.
“HTWO Energy Savannah is a breakthrough hydrogen production and refueling station for the heavy-duty trucking industry, allowing zero-emissions trucks to quickly and easily refuel at a single convenient location in the Savannah region,” said Jim Park, SVP, commercial vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell business, Hyundai Motor North America. “The HTWO Energy Savannah hydrogen station will also truly fulfill our vision for HMGMA Clean Logistics, allowing our innovative new electric vehicle plant to transport plant shipments within a clean, zero-emissions ecosystem.”
On the HTWO Energy Savannah site, hydrogen production and refueling stations generating 1,200 kilograms of hydrogen per day will support fast-fill zero-emissions heavy-duty trucking operations in the region. Moving forward, available infrastructure can be scaled to support up to 4,200 kilograms of hydrogen per day to meet future demand.

SEOUL/ANAHEIM, April 29, 2025 – Hyundai Motor Company and Plus unveiled a shared vision at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2025 in Anaheim, California, outlining how their collaboration on autonomous hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks aims to accelerate the development of a hydrogen-powered freight network in the United States.
The collaboration pairs Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen-powered XCIENT Fuel Cell truck with Plus’s AI-based autonomous driving software, SuperDrive™, proposing a scalable and cost-effective solution to long-haul freight that aims to reduce the carbon footprint of commercial transportation.

A Scalable Pathway to Hydrogen Freight
In the concept video, Hyundai Motor and Plus outline a practical framework for deploying autonomous hydrogen fuel cell trucks along high-utilization hub-to-hub routes. The approach focuses on:
- Initial deployment across major freight corridors to build early momentum
- Stimulating demand for strategically placed hydrogen refueling stations
- Expanding infrastructure to support a growing fleet and wider hydrogen use
- Reinforcing scalability, as new routes drive further infrastructure investment and adoption
Autonomous hydrogen fuel cell trucks offer zero-tailpipe emissions, fast refueling, long driving range, quieter operation, and reduced maintenance. These features position Hyundai Motor’s XCIENT Fuel Cell truck as an ideal candidate for continuous long-haul transport, particularly as the hydrogen ecosystem matures.
The video illustrates how this infrastructure can be built out incrementally, with each added delivery route increasing network efficiency and economic viability – benefiting not only autonomous trucks, but also other hydrogen-powered vehicles. Over time, this blueprint envisions a self-reinforcing cycle of vehicle adoption, infrastructure development, and lower operational costs per unit.
Clean logistics milestones of Hyundai Motor in the U.S.
Hyundai Motor is operating 30 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks at the Ports of Oakland and Richmond through the NorCAL ZERO Project – the largest hydrogen truck deployment in North America. Since September 2023, these trucks have logged nearly 450,000 miles in zero-tailpipe emission freight transport, including container hauling.
In Georgia, 21 XCIENT trucks support logistics at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America under the HTWO Logistics initiative with GLOVIS America. Powered by on-site hydrogen production and refueling, the fleet handles nearly half of the plant’s logistics. Hyundai Motor plans to scale this ecosystem globally and expand its HTWO hydrogen brand into an open collaboration platform.
Hyundai Motor and Plus Announce Collaboration to Demonstrate First Level 4 Autonomous Fuel Cell Electric Truck in the U.S.
LAS VEGAS/SEOUL, MAY 22, 2024 – Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai Motor) and autonomous driving software leader Plus today unveiled the first Level 4 autonomous Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric truck in the U.S. at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, the largest advanced clean transportation technology and fleet event in North America.
A result of the collaboration between Hyundai Motor and Plus, Hyundai Motor’s XCIENT Fuel Cell truck, equipped with Plus SuperDrive™ Level 4 autonomous driving technology, is on display at the Plus ACT Expo booth (#2044).
The Level 4 autonomous XCIENT Fuel Cell truck is undergoing initial autonomous driving assessments in the U.S., making it the first-ever Level 4 self-driving test on a Class 8 fuel cell electric truck to take place in the country. The collaboration seeks to show that autonomous hydrogen fuel cell trucks can help make trucking safer, more efficient, and more sustainable.

First introduced in 2020, Hyundai Motor’s XCIENT Fuel Cell truck has conducted commercial operations in eight countries worldwide, establishing a successful track record of real-world applications and technological reliability.
At last year’s ACT Expo, Hyundai introduced XCIENT Fuel Cell tractor, the commercialized Class 8 6×4 fuel cell electric model, powered by two 90kW hydrogen fuel cell systems and a 350kW e-motor, providing a driving range of over 450 miles per charge even when fully loaded.
Plus’s SuperDrive™ solution is being deployed across the U.S., Europe, and Australia. The system uses a combination of cutting-edge sensors, including LiDAR, radar and cameras, to provide surround perception, planning, prediction and self-driving capabilities.
