Subaru of America, Inc. today announced pricing on the 2026 Subaru Forester SUV arriving at Subaru retailers this fall. The sixth-generation Forester continues to build on its successful debut last year, and is joined by the new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness, the most rugged Forester Wilderness yet. The sixth-generation Forester SUV starts at $29,995 MSRP.
The 2026 Subaru Forester is available in six trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring, and Wilderness. All are equipped with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the latest generation of award-winning Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. The Forester’s standard 8.7 inches of ground clearance gives the SUV impressive capability, while an available Subaru 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus System with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility offers added comfort and convenience. The new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness features an impressive 9.3 inches of ground clearance – taller than its predecessor – and offers true off-road capabilities thanks to key upgrades to take adventure further beyond the trail.
The Subaru Forester and Forester Wilderness are powered by a revised 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine that makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque available at a lower RPM for responsiveness, compared to the previous generation of Forester. All Foresters utilize a Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
The new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness uses a revised Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a shorter final drive ratio for better low-speed off-road capability paired with advanced X-MODE® Dual Mode System with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes for added confidence. A revised Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, shared with the sixth-generation Forester, offers faster center differential lockup and reduced wheelspin when off-roading, and incorporates steering angle data for better stability at turn-in and cornering on higher-speed roads. The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness is equipped with standard 235mm all-terrain tires, wider than the outgoing generation, for more confidence off-road. All 2026 Foresters utilize the Subaru Global Platform, which has been strengthened to deliver 10% stiffer torsional rigidity compared to the previous generation Subaru Forester.
The new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness also offers improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, compared to the rest of the sixth-generation Forester lineup. The approach angle has been extended to 23.5 degrees compared to 19 degrees; ramp breakover improves up to 21 degrees compared to 19.6 degrees; and the departure angle edges up to 25.5 degrees compared to 24.6 degrees. An uprated transmission cooler offers an increased towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, the highest towing capacity ever offered on a Subaru Forester.
Standard on every 2026 Forester, the latest version of EyeSight® is designed to operate more smoothly and quickly, and in a broader range of conditions. That is due in part to a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster. EyeSight® can identify cyclists and pedestrians at intersections sooner and, when necessary, alert the driver and apply braking to avoid collisions. Additional available safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic Emergency Steering, and Emergency Lane Keep Assist.
Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection can stop the SUV if it detects an unresponsive driver when the Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control is active. The system will stop the SUV, activate hazard lights, and unlock the doors. Subaru Connected Services can then call emergency services for help.
All 2026 Foresters have a Rear Seat Reminder that can alert drivers to check the rear seat for occupants or pets to prevent trapping them alone in the vehicle.
Automatic Emergency Steering and Emergency Lane Keep Assist are equipped on all models with Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Automatic Emergency Steering can help drivers avoid collisions with objects within their lane of travel at speeds of 50 mph or slower, while Emergency Lane Keep Assist works with EyeSight® and Blind-Spot Detection to assist with steering control depending on traffic in adjacent lanes to help avoid crashes when merging at speeds between approximately 37 and 90 mph. An available Surround-View Monitor offers a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings to better maneuver the Forester into parking spaces.

Performance and Capability
Thanks to longer coil springs and shock absorbers, the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness features 9.3 inches of ground clearance (up from 9.2 inches for 2025 versions). The suspension has been tuned for improved stability and comfort on- and off-road. Like the new, sixth-generation Subaru Forester, the new Forester Wilderness uses a revised 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine that makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque available at a lower RPM for responsiveness.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness uses a revised Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a shorter final drive ratio for better low-speed off-roadability paired with advanced X-MODE® Dual Mode with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes for added confidence. A revised Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, shared with the new Forester, offers faster center differential lockup and reduced wheelspin when off-roading, and incorporates steering angle data for better stability at turn-in and cornering on higher-speed roads.
Larger, all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar® tires are mounted on Wilderness-exclusive 17-inch anthracite wheels for better performance on muddy or gravel roads. An uprated transmission cooler offers up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity on the new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness, and a rear differential temperature sensor offers more confidence on the trails.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness also offers improved approach, departure, and breakover angles, compared to the rest of the sixth-generation Forester lineup. The approach angle has been extended to 23.5 degrees compared to 19 degrees; ramp breakover improves up to 21 degrees compared to 19.6 degrees; and the departure angle edges up to 25.5 degrees compared to 24.6 degrees.

The Forester Wilderness includes standard roof rails with an 800-pound static load capacity rating (176 pounds dynamic), LED hexagonal fog lights, underbody protection, and expanded anodized copper-finish exterior accents, including front and rear bumper tow hook covers.
Inside, the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness is equipped with animal-free interior seating surfaces via water-resistant and easily cleanable StarTex® upholstery. Anodized copper-finish interior accents are exclusive to the Forester Wilderness trim and, for the first time ever, an available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with Wilderness-exclusive graphics is available.
Convenience and Safety
The Subaru Global Platform underpinning the new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness has been enhanced with 10% stiffer torsional rigidity thanks to a new full inner frame construction with stronger welding techniques and additional structural adhesive (from approximately 26.2 feet to 88.5 feet) for better rigidity. The updates delivery improved dynamic performance and a smoother ride and quieter cabin.
Inside, the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness offers standard 60/40-split folding rear seats that open up to 69.1 cubic feet of useable cargo space. With the rear seats upright, the Forester Wilderness comfortably seats up to five people with 39.4 inches of rear seat legroom.
