- 400-volt plug-in hybrid system
- Extensive upgrades with even more emotional design
- Available in SUV and Coupe models
Mercedes-AMG has extensively further developed the successful AMG GLE 53 family with an even more emotional design, enhanced equipment and state-of-the-art technology and heightened performance. The new exterior design gives the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID a more expressive presence. The revised front end impresses with a modified AMG-specific radiator grille, newly designed air intakes and LED lighting that accentuates the vehicle’s sporty character. The rear of the vehicle stands out with striking newly shaped taillights with the star design and the AMG exhaust system with twin tailpipe trims. A wide selection of exclusive paint finishes are available, including for the first time as an AMG series finish on the AMG GLE, MANUFAKTUR Cirrus Silver Magno.
New, further enhanced M256M EVO engine
At the heart of the AMG GLE 53 HYBRID is the further developed M256M EVO 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine produces 443 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The high-performance unit impresses with an even sportier power curve at higher rpms.
The AMG-enhanced engine features a new cylinder head with improved intake and exhaust ports and a new intake camshaft. In addition, there is a new intake system with a larger volume. The improved torque build-up and even more agile response to accelerator pedal commands contribute to powerful acceleration at a wide range of engine speeds. The overall power curve is adapted to the engine’s higher revving capability and the torque curve has been extended. 21.8 psi (1.5 bar) of boost pressure from the optimized exhaust gas turbocharger enables the robust torque at higher rpms.
The advanced powertrain in the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID combines the AMG-enhanced engine with a 181-hp electric motor. The 400-volt plug-in hybrid combines sporty driving dynamics with electric efficiency. The high power density of the hybrid drive head is achieved through permanently excited synchronous technology with an internal rotor. The maximum torque of the electric motor, 354 lb-ft, is available from the first revolution. This ensures high agility right from the start and eliminates turbo lag.
The combined system output of 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of combined system torque enables impressive performance. Acceleration from 0-60 mph takes just 4.1 seconds – 0.8-seconds faster than its predecessor, the AMG GLE 53. Power delivery only ends at an electronically limited 155 mph. All-electric driving is also possible at speeds up to 87 mph. A 60-kW DC fast charger is equipped standard, which enables the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes. A 9.6-kW onboard charger is also fitted standard for AC charging.
Newly developed and tuned suspension
The new AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with adaptive damping adjustment offers a balanced combination of exceptional comfort and AMG driving dynamics. The system continuously adapts to the driving situation and the selected drive program.
The completely newly developed ESP® system offers even more precise control strategies and works perfectly with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. Variable torque distribution enables optimal traction in all driving situations.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs
The familiar “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” “Trail” and “Individual” AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs enable a wide range of driving experiences. These adjust key parameters such as powertrain and transmission response, steering characteristics, suspension damping and sound.
The “Electric” drive program enables all-electric driving at speeds up to 87 mph. If the driver requests more power via the accelerator pedal, the intelligent operating strategy automatically switches modes: the combustion engine starts and temporarily takes over the drive power. When the battery state of charge is depleted, the system automatically switches to the “Comfort” drive program.
With the “Battery Hold” drive program, the combustion engine and electric motor operate as the situation demands, similar to the “Comfort” drive program, with a maximum boost from the electric motor of approximately 25 percent. The key difference is the operating strategy maintains the battery’s state of charge. For example, if the battery is at a 75 percent state of charge, it remains in this range as long as the “Battery Hold” drive program is selected. Use of the electric motor is therefore limited and optimized for low energy consumption. This allows drivers to decide when to use the full electric range – for example, in city traffic.
Interior: elegant materials with dynamic style
The interior welcomes occupants with a perfect blend of sportiness and luxury. The extensive available equipment includes a variety of leather finishes, from Nappa leather to MANUFAKTUR Nappa leather in Truffle Brown, Carmine Red and Yacht Blue. AMG-specific trim elements and an optional microfiber headliner underscore the sporty nature of the new AMG GLE 53 HYBRID.

AMG Performance steering wheel
The AMG Performance steering wheel, flattened at the bottom, features new tactile roller and rocker controls. It is available in a variety of finishes, from supple leather to sporty carbon fiber and microfiber. The steering wheel paddles allow drivers to manually control gear changes of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT® TCT 9G transmission. The two round AMG DRIVE UNIT steering wheel buttons, fitted standard, impress with brilliant color LCD displays and modern icons for intuitive control of key vehicle functions and drive programs.
State-of-the-art driver display concept
The MB.OS operating system enables the high-resolution driver display that provides the driver with the most relevant driving information. AMG-specific displays such as the large tachometer or performance data are always in view.
Exclusive customization
The MANUFAKTUR program offers extensive customization options. With an expanded paint portfolio featuring new MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic and MANUFAKTUR Cirrus Silver Magno, to high-quality MANUFAKTUR Nappa leather interiors in striking colors like Yacht Blue or Carmine Red, to exclusive AMG Carbon Fiber trim – every Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 HYBRID can be tailored to individual customer tastes. AMG wheels with a variety of designs in sizes up to 22 inches are also available.
